The All-New Volvo XC40

To start off our Volvo SUV Shopping guide, we'll look at the brand new Volvo XC40. Just introduced, the XC40 is the compact crossover from Volvo that people have been waiting for. Although the class exploded in popularity in recent years, this is Volvo's first entry in the segment. It was certainly worth the wait.

The Volvo XC40 comes in three trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription.

Even the base XC40 Momentum comes standard with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, automatic high-beam control, roof rails, automatic wipers, power liftgate, automatic climate control, keyless ignition, power-adjustable driver seat, driver-seat memory settings, 60/40-split rear seats, leather upholstery, 9-inch infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, and 8-speaker sound system. This is a great feature list, and doesn't even include the safety features we'll be looking at below.

The R-Design brings a wealth of cosmetic changes and sport-oriented features like a specially tuned suspension and cornering lights. Other features include suede seat inserts, power passenger seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, cooled glovebox, and more. Meanwhile, the Volvo XC40 Inscription model shares some of the equipment with the R-Design but without the sport tuning, and adds wood accents and other luxury features.

The XC40's two powertrains are the T4 and T5, and are paired with FWD and AWD systems, respectively. The T4 engine produces 187 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, while the T5 puts out 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Both engines provide a great blend of power and efficiency to the 2019 XC40, and are paired to an eight-speed transmission to maximize their potential.

The wealth of standard and available safety equipment, combined with luxury features and a great driving experience make the 2019 Volvo XC40 a great new addition to the Volvo SUV lineup.
